5 Month Milestone Session | Baby Lorelai

We all know I love newborn and maternity sessions, but I am surprising even myself with how much I am loving milestone sessions. Milestone sessions are one of the easiest ways to slow down and savor that first year with baby, and clients can choose to add as many milestone sessions as they want (although most choose between 2-4 in the first year).

I find that it’s the small things I miss about my babies being babies — the quiet moments nursing, the way their heads rested on my shoulder, their chubby little baby hands in mine. Maybe those memories are why I love milestone sessions so much.

This family opted for an outdoor session in the nature-filled Lakewood neighborhood when their daughter was about 5 months old. My clients spent the session snuggling, playing and bouncing since she wasn’t quite past that sitting milestone yet, and I spent the session playing peek-a-boo behind my camera. Have I mentioned my peek-a-boo game is quite strong?

One of my very favorite moments of the session was when it became clear that this 5 month old was hungry. As we stopped to take care of her needs, I happened to ask this sweet mom if she wanted photos of her and her daughter nursing. She paused and asked, “Can I do that?” Of course you can do that!

I asked her if I could share the images on my blog, and since she said yes, they are included below. If you’re a mom - whether you bottle fed or nursed or any combination of the two - I hope they remind you how strong and equipped you are to care for your children at any age and stage.
