What to Wear for Newborn Portraits | May Style Board

Hi friends! I’m feeling a little out of sorts this week with all the end-of-school parties, field days, awards ceremonies, showcases, all-the-things type of things, but HEY — I got some coffee and a good attitude, so I say “bring it on”.

If there’s one group of women who can relate to the feeling of too-much-to-do-not-enough-time-to-do-it, it’s expecting moms, and this new series is totally for y’all. I didn’t do professional newborn portraits with our first son, and with our second son, I broke my own rule and really didn’t spend much time preparing for what to wear beforehand.

But here’s the thing — there is nothing like giving birth. Whatever it looks like for you, it will require something from you emotionally, physically and mentally that you didn’t know you had within you. Like anything so life-changing, after the experience you are a new version of yourself. It’s a beautiful transformation.

I believe newborn sessions, at their heart, should honor the life-changing moment that a family has just gone through. One way I want to honor that is by helping you feel empowered, confident, beautiful and completely in awe of the new little life you were blessed to bring into the world.

My heartfelt recommendation is that you don’t overlook what to wear for your newborn session, or any photo session, for that matter. It’s only clothes, yes, but pulling together a relaxed, elevated look before baby comes will do wonders towards creating images that truly bring out all of the awe-inspiring emotions you experience after birth.

Let the mood board below inspire you on what to wear or have it do all the hard work for you (I even have all the links for you, because how did we ever live without online shopping?) If you’re wanting more ideas, head over to my Pinterest board or reach out to me for a handpicked wardrobe especially for you.
